Understanding of Plastics

Nowadays, it is difficult to find a product which does not contain plastic parts. This is for a good reason, since plastics offer a remarkable freedom in design, allow integrated functions, and are suited for mass production processes. However, designing with plastics requires considerable expertise. To fulfil all requirements of a product, a deep understanding of the nature of plastics is key. Those material selections typically consist of two steps: The first is to derive material requirements from defined application requirements and the second is to select potential material candidates fulfilling those material requirements.

Best Data for your Simulations

To perform purposeful simulations, proper data describing the material behaviour is key. Our engineers aim to achieve the best possible results even when limited information is available. In some cases, it is necessary to obtain specific material data from experimental tests. According to the principle ‘as much as necessary, as little as possible’ we assist our customers in defining the proper test procedure to obtain material data suited for conducting appropriate simulations. If required, we can arrange the full test programme for our customers in collaboration with preferred partner labs.

Material Failure Analytics

Frequently our customers consult us to find the reason for why a part is not behaving as expected. There can be various causes of the failure of technical parts, since it could be related to a non-optimal design, a non-reliable production process, or the materials used. Often, indications for the cause of damage can be found by analysing the materials of actual failed parts.
